MEET THE TEAM
BAM's Directors
BAM's Directors, Ben Hutchinson and Matthew Young, have secured and managed more than £150m of research and innovation funding over the past 10 years. They are committed to making innovation happen, and work to connect innovative companies with the ideal industry and government partners and academic expertise to maximise chances of funding success and to enable significant real world impact.

Ben and Matthew (BAM) are hands-on directors. Unlike the bigger grant writing companies, we lead on all of our grant writing, building close ongoing relationships with clients.

Ben Hutchinson: Ben has secured more than 300 grants (£100m+) for industry and University clients. Before setting up BAM, he spent 10 years in research development at the Universities of Durham and Bath. He has deep expertise in health and medical applications, and is a Research Committee member for the Bath Institute for Rheumatic Diseases and a Director of Bath Mind mental health charity. He is also an assessor for Innovate UK.
Matthew Young: has 10 years’ research development experience at UCL and the University of Bath. He was founding partner and Operations Director of the £50m Centre for the Analysis of Motion, Entertainment Research and Applications (CAMERA) at the University of Bath. Matthew was Link Director for the West of England Academic Health Science Network. He is an Expert Reviewer and Ethics Assessor for Horizon Europe.
Ben and Matthew lead our BAM Technologies activities, funded by 6 Innovate UK grants in the past two years.

Practicing what we preach
BAM Technologies is our in-house R&D department. We specialise in medical devices, currently working on a condition management device for rheumatoid arthritis.
Our spin-out company, PinTale, was founded in 2023. With 5 Innovate UK grants in our first year, we're developing cutting-edge LLM and VR/AR technologies to support authors in plotting and editing their novels and experiencing them in immersive and experiential ways.
